What is a XPS file?
Designed in collaboration by Microsoft and Ecma International, the XPS (XML Paper Specification) is a replacement of the EMF (Enhanced Metafile) format. The extension is similar to the more popular PDF (Portable Document Format) extension but is a proprietary version. An XPS file is a ZIP comprising the following information and more –
• FDOC – it holds the document’s settings file.
• FRAG – it contains the document’s fragment files.
• FPAGE – it includes the actual text.
XPS extension was an integral part of Windows 7, but Windows 8 replaced it with OXPS format.
