What is a WPS file?
Created by Microsoft, the WPS file extension is related to the Microsoft Works, which is a toned-down version of the MS Office Suite package. The former is considerably cheaper than the latter and only comes with a word processor, spreadsheet, and a database. A WPS file contains documents that are similar to a DOC file but lacks advanced formatting capabilities and macro that comes with the latter. The WPS format was discontinued in 2006 and replaced by .DOC extension.
