What is a VHDX file?
Developed by Microsoft, the Windows 8 and Windows Server 8 uses the VHDX (Virtual Hard Drive Extension). It is related to Hyper-V and is an extension of VHD with added improvements and protection. It also comes with data corruption prevention mechanisms and 16TB of maximum storage (compared to 2TB in the earlier iteration). It saves binary data and belongs to the disk image file category. Users can find these files in the Windows 8 default backup archives.
