What is a SYLK file?
A .Sylk, or Symbolic Link file can be found involved in the storage of lines of text that specify the cell row, column, formatting, and other content from the spreadsheet applications created by the Microsoft spreadsheet programs. Introduced in the 1980s, SYLK files can also be used for transferring data between databases and spreadsheet applications. .SYLK extensions are more commonly associated with SLK files and are stored in an ANSI text format. .Sylk files can be read through other applications, are also composed of ASCII characters, and they can be found in the form of .SLK extensions for Windows. Variants of this file type are supported by Multiplan, Microsoft Works, OpenOffice.org, and Gnumeric but it does not support Unicode, an application that was created by Microsoft Excel. Each line of the .SYLK should not be more than 260 characters, otherwise, Microsoft will issue an error message and skip loading long lines.
