What is a RPM file?

The Red Hat Package Manager file, RPM, is a file that stores installation packages and the files are primarily on Linux operating systems. Installations and upgrades are streamlined because of RPM files. Although created for the Red Hat Linux, RPM files are used in many different Linux distributions. It is not limited to Linux; RPM is used on operating systems such as the Novell NetWare, IBM’s AIX, and CentOS.
