What is a R3D file?
Developed by RED, its high-resolution video cameras use the R3D extension as its default format to store content shot by it. It uses the REDCODE compression, which is an advanced wavelet technology codec capable of creating lossless images. Cameras from RED shoot videos in 4K resolution, which mean that an R3D file will occupy far more space than a traditional HD or a 2K clip in AVI, MKV, or MP4 format
