What is a PYXEL file?
Developed by Daniel Kvarfordt, the PYXEL file falls under the raster group of images and is used by Pyxel Edit. The software creates pixel art drawings in the form of animations and pictures and stores them in tiles form. Each PYXEL file can contain one or more such images. Users can export these files in different formats such as PNG, GIF, and JPEG.
A PYXEL file follows a zip compression by default which means you can unzip the file by renaming the extension to ZIP. The unzipped file would have a lot of information, mostly in PNG and JSON formats. The later would have color, settings, and other information to describe the PYXEL files, whereas the former would have tile and layer information.
