What is a PATCH file?
Developed by Matt Mackall, the Mercurial, a control managing developer’s tool, uses the PATCH extension. The format contains subtle differences that do not change the entire layout or the functioning of the software but brings about improvements in some areas. The software includes two different versions, where the first one is the original code, and the other one contains the PATCH file.
It lets the developers understand the impact of the changes and allows them to push the update to the user once he verifies everything. The format is text-based and written in C or Python programming languages.
