What is a MXF file?
Developed by SMPTE, the MXF (Material Exchange Format) file extension belongs to the video file category and stores digital audio and video programs. It also contains metadata that contains the file description. The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers developed it as a video and audio container format, and users can convert it to other codecs such as AVI or MOV.
We also know MXF format as the “digital equivalent of videotape”, and the way it unfolds reminds us of a classic video playback scenario. It adopts a subset of AAC format which allows standardization of video and audio files exchange between parties.
