What is a MNG file?
The MNG file is a binary raster image which is similar to GIFs but features multi-level transparency and higher compression. Published in 2001, the Multiple-Image Networks Graphics is a sibling of PNG. When the latter was being developed in 1995, the developers were not willing to add support for animations. They believed that it would be an unnecessary burden.
Soon they started working on an animation-supporting version of PNG and named it MNG. It came into limelight in the year 2001. These can be either lossy or lossless. But it lacks the LZW certification, which has made it less popular than its contemporaries. There are two versions of MNG: MNG-LC (Low Complexity) and MNG-VLC (Very Low Complexity) allowing users to implement a part of it wherever necessary.
