What is a LRV file?
LRV is the abbreviation for a Low-Resolution Video file. Produced and used by multiple GoPro cameras, LRV files are smaller video files in comparison to high definition (HD) video files. These files are used to reduce the computing power that is exerted because HD video files that the GoPro produces are much larger in size, making it difficult to stream. After editing, it is converted to an HD format before rendering the final edit of the video. LRV files capture 29.97 fps – frames per second – in 240p regardless of the camera’s setting and are developed to be about 20MB in size. LRV files are also used to preview GoPro mobile applications, playback files via Wi-Fi capabilities, and stream buffer when smartphones are used as control devices. DO NOT save your LRV file under the same name as the original video or you risk overwriting the original video file.
