What is a LOCK file?
The lock file is a file used by numerous operating programs and systems to lock a resource such as a file or a device. It creates locked copies of database files and prevents the user from making changes on a file while another user is editing it. It uses the .loc file suffix and is commonly associated with the Microsoft.NET framework. Usually, lock file contains no data and exists as an empty marker file. It contains properties and settings for the lock. Original resources can’t be opened until you release the lock. The file extension is great for programs that require to prevent access to any critical sources. Some of the software that opens or converts fix locked files include windows WinRAR, NOTEPAD++, photo gallery, adobe illustrator, and Microsoft office. For file locking, you need to create a new file name, and the lock extension, to the original file name. for instance, ‘hope. file,’ becomes ‘hope.file.lock.’
