What is a LDF file?
Developed by Microsoft, its SQL Server, an RDBMS (Relational Database Management System), uses the LDF format. These are data files that store transaction logs that the database executes and allows the user to track recent occurrences chronologically. Due to this, the software can recover from any unexpected hardware failure or shutdowns.
The LDF format stores both fully committed and partially committed files, and it enables the software to create checkpoints when it is in a stable condition. The RDBMS later deletes the log file to reduce the overall size. If the checkpoint is missing, it may lead to huge file size.
