What is a LBM file?
Developed by Electronic Arts, the LBM extension is an IFF-ILBM (Interchange File Format-Interleaved Bitmap). These files are capable of storing up to 256 color images and supports black and white as well. It has been created by Electronic Arts’ Deluxe Paint which is a graphics editor initially developed for Amiga Systems. It has subsequently been ported to other platforms.
These files generally come with ILBM and IFF formats too. The LBM files come with an IFF Bitmap header and an IFF color map. It uses the PackBits compression to store the images as bytes with the ability to compress up to 90 per cent of the original file size.
