What is an IDML file?
Idml file is a program created by the InDesign program used to create professional page layouts. The files can be individual or group files stored as a compressed package using zip compression. It contains various XML files that represent a complete InDesign document. This file format was created to replace INX, which was more challenging to create and also edit. InDesign users can modify documents, graphic images, visual documents, and other documents. Also, Idml files are grouped to enable easy searching of items contained in the file. It’s format support applications for multimedia content creation and also editing IDML packages.
The XML files in IDML archive contains several documents that are used in storing different parts of the text. Examples include;
• Resource – contains documents element like paragraph styles, fonts, colors, and graphics • Spreads – stores documents spreads
• stories -include all document stories
• Master spread contains masterspread.xml that postulate all master spread displayed on the document pages like polygon, ellipses, and group polygon
