What is a HEIC file?
Developed by MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group), the HEIC is a container file extension that stores a group of High-Efficiency Image Format (HEIF) images. The format contains a single picture or a sequence of images and the following information about them –
• Image derivatives
• Image metadata
• Auxiliary image items &
• Image derivatives
It is capable of storing images with a smaller overall footprint compared to JPEGs without any difference in quality. Due to it, there are several modern cameras which make use of the HEIC extension as their default one.
