What is a H264 file?
The H264 extension refers to a file in H.264 or MPEG-4 Part 10 or AVC (Advanced Video Coding) format. It is a video compression standard popular for storing high definition video files based on the block-oriented, motion-compensated integer-DCT coding to reduce the blur effect in the final output.
The primary motive behind the development of the H264 extension was to provide users a comparable high-end experience at a lower bit rate than all its previous iterations. The format’s overall structure is simple, making it easy to implement for a wide array of use cases. The ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) of Study Group 16, along with ISO/IEC JTC1 MPEG, standardized the H.264 structure, and it came out in May 2003. The H.265 is its successor and has been created by the same organizations.
