What is a TIFF file?
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a popular file type amongst photographers, publishers, and graphics artists due to its versatile nature. Created initially by Aldus Corp, but Adobe Systems later acquired it. It can hold both lossless as well as lossy images. You can store vector data too, and it is why these are growing popular rapidly.
A TIFF or TIF file is capable of supporting color depths ranging between 1-bit to 24-bit, and it can also accommodate multiple layers and pages. The format has received numerous revisions over the years, gaining more and more improvements over time. It has a maximum size of 2**32 bytes and uses IFDs to store relevant information about the image saved. Each TIFF must have one Image File Directory, and each IFD must contain at least one entry.
