What is a TGA file?

Designed by Truevision, TGA file extension belongs to the Raster Image File category. You get support for 8, 16, 24, and 32bits per pixel with a maximum of 24bit for RGB, along with an 8bit alpha channel. It was initially developed by the organization for their Targa and Vista lineup and has now become an industry standard for ray tracing and high-end pain programs for all those who use MS-DOS software.
It was developed in the year 1984 and is amongst the first format to support 16M colors. Users can save them in either uncompressed or compressed form.
