What is a DXF file?

Developed by Autodesk, the CAD (computer-aided design) vector image files use the DXF extension to store its text content. The format came into life to ensure that a plethora of programs can access AutoCAD documents easily. The DXF files are ASCII-based and are similar to DWG extension, but is far more compatible across the board.
