What is a DWL file?
DWL file is a drawing lock file created by TurboCAD, a program used to draft 2D and 3D designs. The file is used to prevent simultaneous access to the drawing, which may result to file being overwritten or corrupted. TurboCAD creates DWL when a drawing file is opened and is automatically deleted when a drawing is closed. The DWL files contain information on who or what computer, and time or date the drawing was opened. The files stores lock information when a drawing(.TCW) file is opened in the program. You need a suitable file software like AutoCAD to open a DWL file. In case you don’t have the appropriate software, you will receive messages like how do you want to open this file, or windows can’t open this file. One of the programs that open and convert DWL files are AUTOCAD by Autodesk. DWL files allow users to view a copy of the file, but it doesn’t allow editing of the file while the original is open.
