What is a DPX file?
DPX file is a raster image format that’s used for transferring film images to a digital medium without interfering with the quality. These files store digital motion picture data in a bitmap file format. DPX file is sometimes referred to as a digital moving picture exchange Bitmap. The files are often exported as a frame sequence and consists of a series of still images. This is also a common file format for digital intermediate and visual effects work. DPX files were developed initially by Kodak. However, they were enhanced and published by SMPTE(Society of Motion picture and Television engineer, who are currently maintaining the file format. DPX files are similar to.CIN files, the original Kodak format, but contains extra information in the header format. The file format provides flexibility in storing color information, color planes, and color spaces that enable exchange between product images. The files contain a version for the Mac and Microsoft Windows platform of Adobe photoshop.
