What is a DOCX file?
If there is one file type that most people will associate wit, it has to be the DOCX extension. Created by Microsoft, it is a format that stores documents created by MS-Word or any other similar word editor. The Microsoft Word Open XML replaced the once-popular DOC format and first came into limelight in 2007. It was the year when MS-Word was released.
The primary difference between a DOC and a DOCX file is that the former uses the binary format to store information whereas the latter does so in the Open XML format.
