What is a CAP file?
CAP files, also referred to as trace or bone files, are data file extensions. These files contain raw network data packets that are able to be used by multiple network data packet sniffer applications to collect more raw data and metadata. They can also be used to examine and analyze data that passed between devices on a digital network. CAP files are used by network administrators and IT professionals to detect malicious activity, analyze and diagnose problems that are occurring, or have occurred, within the network, and maintain compliance with the IT network regulations. The network data packets within a CAP file are all incoming files from an indicated port – or telecommunication devices, such as phones and computers – after being collected by a terminal emulator. Some CAP files are used as Construct Game Development files – project files that contain sounds, graphics, models, and other elements used within the game.
