What is an APPLICATION file?
An Application file is a deployment manifest file made with Windows Presentation Foundation and supported by ClickOnce technology, created by Microsoft. ClickOnce is a Microsoft application deployment technology that allows users to install and run a Windows-based smart client application like CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework) by clicking a link on a web page. It keeps records of application updates such as digital signatures and the name of the publisher. It is similar to a Java Web Start file of the Java platform. There are several Application file formats such as PDF (Portable Document Format from Adobe) and PPT (Microsoft PowerPoint presentations). Application files are stored in XML format. They are opened, fixed, or converted by WinRAR, Media Player Classic, and Any Video Converter Professional. An Application file table is the main table for configuration records. To prevent unnecessary editing or to delete your file by unknown people, you can put a read-only protection policy.
