DTS File

What is a DTS file?

Developed by Digital Theater Systems (now knows as DTS, Inc.), the DTS extension refers to audio in the Digital Theater Systems file type. First introduced in 1993 as a direct competitor to Dolby, it is a surround sound format commonly found alongside movies and commercials and several consumer-grade applications.
It saves five audio tracks together to compile a surround sound effect with the help of center, left, front, right-front, left-rear, and right-rear channels. Even though the source needs five channels to emulate the exact effect as the format desires, several 2.0Ch players are also compatible with it.
