What is an APE file?
Developed by Monkey’s Audio, the APE extension refers to audio files compressed using its in-house compression algorithm. These files are also known as an APE codec or MAC format and are a lossless binary format. It works differently from the commonly-found MP3, WMA, and other lossy formats and ensures that the user listens to the audio in the same way the developer wanted it to sound. The APE format also comes with error detection and tag support to store metadata about the main file.
