What is a SMC file?
They are files containing game ROM used along with the Super Nintendo gaming system (SNES) by Nintendo. SNE was a 16-bit console, 16-bit graphics and sound, and two players hardware popular hardware in the 90s. It keeps digital image copies of the game from the original Super Nintendo cartridge. SMC uses SNES emulators like ZNES and Snes9x that allow users to play such games on their personal computers. This is only possible when the right emulator is installed and, of course, a ROM. The games in the SMC file may or may not be copyrighted.
If you are dealing with a console emulator such as Snes9x, they do not come preinstalled like other Windows applications. However, they are available in portable versions, which you can run without the need to install. Also, SMCs are usually safe, so no cause for alarm. However, you can always scan them for malware if you feel uneasy running them on your computer.
