What is an IWA file?
IWA belongs to iWork Archive File, which is an office suite created by Apple. It is a binary format under the encoded file category. It stores themes style sheets, metadata, and tables from iWork. Before .iwa was .xml, which today can split into smaller binary chunks that can be loaded in isolation. This is an advantage for an operating system with little RAM and ideal for iCloud sharing. Data in the XML file is then encoded in .iwa binary files and stored in the index.zip folder.
The encoded file becomes easy to share when compressed with Snappy compression. This method is standard in Google for compression and decompression speeds. Speeds go up to 250 MBs per second for compression, with decompression hitting up to 500 MBs per second. To cut a long story short, .iwa makes it easy to read and make changes on iWork projects on iOS devices with smaller RAM usage.
