What is a CPI file?

A CPI file is a video clip information file that is created by multiple high definitions (HD) digital video camcorders. It is used to describe an MTS, or AVCHD, video stream. It contains metadata, such as the frame rate, frames per second, and aspect ratio. Typically, you can save CPI files in the AVCHD video format, which was developed jointly by Sony and Panasonic. It was first released in the Sony Handycam HDR –UX1 digital camcorder. Commonly, CPI files are found in AVCHD/BDMV/CLIPINF directory of HD digital video recording media. One advantage that CPI files have is that they allow recording of 1080i and 720p signals, which are high definition signals in video recording. Also, CPI files are used by the Colorlab software program to create picture images that have been created with the software.
