What is a SIG file?
A SIG file is a small text file that can be attached at the end of an email. The main reason why it is attached is that it contains essential information about the sender, including the sender’s address and name. Email services sometimes pose a threat to the authenticity of the emails sent, with modifications during transit a possible occurrence. Therefore, a SIG file will ensure that the sender’s details are also attached so that the real sender is known, and that in case of any modifications and clarifications required, then the sender can easily be contacted and the clarification sought. SIG files may contain more than just the name and email address. In emails sent from work, then the SIG file may include the company’s name, the phone numbers for contact, and the title of the sender. In casual emails, other informal entities can be added, including quotes or bible scriptures.
