What is a PAT file?

A PAT file is a type of system file that is used by a kind of operating system for Synology NAS devices called the Disk Station Manager (DSM). PAT files contain crucial data that is used in the updating or installing of the low-level operating system that runs through the devices. It does not end there; PAT files are also a Synology assistant, a program that installs firmware into the DSM devices. During the setup process in a DSM device, the Synology assistant requests access to a PAT installation file. When the prompt demands access to a PAT file, there are two options that can be used to provide the PAT file. One is the installation of a CD that came with the Synology device. Another option is to download the PAT file directly from the Synology download center. This option offers remote services device users.
