What is an OPUS file?

Developed by Xiph.org, the OPUS extension refers to a file in the Ogg Opus format. It is a lossy audio format with encoding in IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) codec and stored in OGG container thereafter. The OPUS extension uses both CELT and SILK formats and users can get a variable bit rate starting from 6 KBPS and going all the way up to 510 KBPS. These files are mostly used in VoIP (Voice over IP), in-game chat, online chats, and video conferencing purposes.
