What is a SDF file?
.SDF, or SQL CE database file, stores SQL Server Compact, or SQL CE, formats. They were designed by Microsoft for programs that function on mobile and/or desktop devices and they can have a size of up to 4GB. SDF files can also have up to 128-bits of encryption for data security, requiring a password for access. It is rare that average users would have to manage these; database architects and developers often manage SAL CE SDF files in their line of work. SQL CE mediates multiple users going to the .sdf file and for deployment, it can simply be copied to the destination system. If the application in use has an SQL CE database, the entire path to a .sdf dole does not need to be defined with the ADO.NET connection string. Instead, it can be |DataDirectory|
