What is an IES file?
IES files, established by the Illuminating Engineering Society, are file extensions, not actual files. IES file extensions are text files with data on the measurements of light and light quantities to simulate lighting systems. This is done by architectural programs to understand how to display lighting properly on roads and buildings before they are installed. IES influenced the standard expectation and operation of various lighting applications and programs, including sporting events, offices, homes, even the NIST – or National Institute of Standards and Technology – has made many references of the IES for the Optical Radiation Calibrations. IES have some differences but many similarities to the LDT format. For example, both IES and LDT files can be formatted as absolute or relative files. They differ where LDT formats contain data that specify CCT and CRI – correlated color temperature and color rendering index. IES, on the other hand, does not contain this data.
