What is an IFO file?

IFO file is a DVD information file format used by DVD players. It contains information referenced by DVD players and allows users to play with the contents of the DVD. It also includes information like encoding, the region, and navigation protocols. IFO file is a counterpart of .VRO files which contain media stream information. IFO files on the other hand contain details like subtitles, chapter audio tracks. The files work together with .VOB and. VRO files that contain actual video and audio data. These files consist of the header, informing the DVD which particular tasks to perform, for example, which screen to show up at the start-up, where each chapter start, the location of audio tracks is located on the discs. The IFO files are located with .BUP and VOB on a DVD. The files can be opened in Windows, Linux, and mac with compatible video programs like WinDVD, VLC player or Windows Media player.
