BUP File

Category: Misc Files

What is a BUP file?

BUP stands for back up. Each time you install an application on your computer, a miscellaneous file is automatically created. During installation, they are added to the current file name next to the original file extension. These miscellaneous files act as a backup in case the original file gets corrupted or crashes. The BUP extension has to be removed first to access any data. Should you want to change the file, you will need a special kind of software to do so. Also, renaming a BUP file does not change the file type. BUP files are also standard in DVD Info File Backup. Whenever you insert a DVD into your player, it should read the data on the .ifo file. If the disc has any scratches or the information is accidentally deleted, the player will then attempt to decipher the backed up data on the .bup extension. Information in these files is not encrypted.
