What is a CSV file?
Spreadsheets programs such as LibreOffice and Microsoft Excel use the CSV (Comma Separated Values) file format. The extension allows arranging data in tabular form and contains a set of data bifurcated by commas. Each new line represents a new database row. The format first came into existence in 1972 but got its name and the abbreviation in1983. The CSV format is perfect for transferring a long list of information from one proprietary format to another without distorting it.
