What is a SWF file?
Developed by Adobe Systems, the Adobe Flash uses the SWF file extension. It belongs to the video files group and can store text, vector, and raster data. The SWF is an acronym for Shockwave Flash, and it was initially designed for Shockwave Player. But with time, it gained more traction and became a common standard and was renamed to Small Web Format.
Back in the 2000s, people did not have access to unlimited broadband. The SWF extension brought animated graphics and browser-based games to the masses during such times. But it failed to upgrade itself with time and Adobe, and several other developers have decided to end support for it this year.
