What is a DOCM file?

A DOCM file contains a document embedded with macros that will be executed within the file. Microsoft created the extension, and MS-Word uses it to allow the users to automate specific tasks. Macros are a series of commands that are combined to create a single executable command. These are executed automatically and help the users by saving them time taken in performing monotonous tasks.
Microsoft Word allows users to assign macro functionality to a single key or a combination of them. The DOCM files use the same XML format which the Word utilizes. It was introduced in the year 2007 and has since been one of the default formats of the Microsoft Office suite.
