What is a RIS file?

Developed by Research Information Systems, the RIS extension refers to a bibliographic citation file in native format. These files store data in ASCII text format and are compatible across libraries. It allows for seamless exchange and modification of the data in the RIS files.
A RIS format contains the title, author name, date of publication, issue number, publisher name, and such other information. A standard RIS file contains a series of lines, each of which contains two letters, two spaces, a dash, another space, and the reference value.
