What is a PJPEG file?
A PJPEG extension refers to a unique image that has been created in the Progressive JPEG format. It uses a unique encoding mechanism which allows the bitmap image first to appear blurry and then sharpen as the time progresses. It may also appear as alternating horizontal lines which appear to complete the picture. These files mostly come with PJPG extension.
These were popular with old web browsers such as Internet Explorer’s older versions when color images were not widely available on the net. These are no longer prevalent with modern browsers. On the brighter side, you can convert PJPEGs into JPGs by renaming them and then accessing from an image viewer which supports both formats.
Alternatively, users can also convert them into JPEGs or PNGs for better support.
