What is a JPG file?
JPG file extension refers to an image saved in a lossy state. We often use it interchangeably with JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) who are its creators. It is common to find most of the image files in your portfolio containing the JPG extension.
When you come across such file extension, you will find two sub-formats, the JPG/Exif which refers to the images captured by cameras and other photographic equipment, and the JPG/JFIF which is the most common one and found extensively on the web.
A JPG file consists of several segments, each starting with a marker (0xFF byte) according to the standard that applies to it. The JPEG format also ascertains the way it will be compressed and decompressed. Most image editing software are capable of loading them.
