What is a DICOM file?
Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) finds its use in the medical sector for storing digital images of various medical scans. NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) developed the format in 1993 to standardise the process of storing the results of different medical procedures such as MRI, Ultrasound, CT Scans, and others.
Several DICOM files also contain data specific information that helps in the identification of the image to the right patient. Such records often use the DCM files extension, and there are several programs which are capable of accessing them. You can also share DICOM images between two parties if they have the necessary software to access them. There are several web browsers which support Jack Imaging that lets you access DCM files too.
