CUT File

Category: Raster Image Files

What is a CUT file?

The CUT file is a device-independent bitmap originally developed for Dr Halo software. These files support 8-bits per pixel and a maximum of 256 colors per image. Due to their size limitations, users can only store small bitmap images in a CUT file.
A CUT file also comes with a PAL file which stores its color palette. Users can choose to edit the overall texture without modifying the image file via the additional extension. If a PAL file is missing from the context, you will find the CUT file with a grayscale image instead.
