What is a BAM file?

Bam file is a compressed binary version of a SAM file and reliable sequence data. The files are used to represent aligned sequenced up to 128 Mb. It’s additionally designed to be used by different kind of graphics. The file contains a header section and an alignment section. The header normally contains information about the entire file sample name, sample length, and alignment sections. Alignments section consist read name, read sequence, read quality, alignment information and custom tags. The alignment section includes the following information for each read pair. • RG- read group shows the number of reads for specific samples
• BC- Barcode tag shows demultiplex sample ID associated with the read
• XN- this is an amplicon name tags that record amplicon title ID associated with a read.
• SM- single end alignment quality
• AS- paired-end alignment quality
• NM- edits distance tags
