What is an IAM file?
This file is related to AutoDesk Inventor. They are files that aid in creating three-dimensional digital prototypes and merging of two-dimensional AudoCAD projects into a 3D medium. What IAM files do in short is to create that visual image of a product before you start the building process. The file is specific to AutoDesk, which makes it impossible to access IAM files through other platforms. Windows, Mac and Linux users can launch IAM files on their computers. IAM files are made up of numerous links to other Assembly and part files.
For this reason, it’s quite hectic when you are trying to copy an Inventor file into Autodesk. However, there are various tools such as Copy Design tool, Inventor’s Design Assistant, iCopy and iAssembly among others which you can do the trick. Yet, they all have their downsides. Since they are not a one size fits all, you should try research and see which works best for you.
