What is a GLTF file?
GL Transmission Format (GLTF) is a 3D file format that contains a 3D model information. It stores the model’s information in JSON format, including node hierarchy, materials, and cameras. Using JSON minimizes the size of the 3D assets and the runtime processing required to unpack and use those assets.
GLTF file is similar to the DAE file in that it can be used to save and share assets between 3D modeling tools. Even though you can save and share assets, the download speed and load time at runtime are however, limited.
This feature has made it easier for GLTF to be used in mobile and web-based modeling programs. GLTF files are more efficient for downloading or uploading assets from digital databases like Remix 3D.
GLTF file may also refer to external or embedded resources. It may come with separate resources, which are most likely to be Binary (BIN) files, shader (GLSL) file, or image (JPG, PNG, etc.) file.
