What is a TFW file?
TFW is a TIFF world file that’s used by GIS applications. TFW files is used in saving the world location of an aerial satellite photograph. The files don’t store actual image data, and they are saved as separate files alongside a TIFF file. It contains location, scale, and rotation of a map stored as a TIFF image. TFW file uses the same format as JPEG world files (.JPW). GIS(Geographic Information System) application enables a user to envision geographic aspects of a body of data. It enables the user to analyze a database and also receive the files in some kinds of a map.
GIS files must be saved in the same directory as their accompanying TIFF images. The map images are used together with ESRIs Arc series of mapping applications and Global Mapper software. TFW files store a series of lines that specify X and Y pixel sizes, and rotational information.
